This week saw the appointment of Jessica Morgan as the new Director of Tate, the UK’s network of museums dedicated to international modern and contemporary art. Having spent 11 years at the helm of the New York-based Dia Art Foundation, Morgan follows Maria Balshaw, who stepped down from Tate in December 2025 after eight years in the role. The eight previous Directors were men, ranging from Sir Charles Holroyd, appointed in 1897, to Sir Nicholas Serota, who oversaw the opening of Tate Modern in 2000.

Morgan’s appointment was the second win this week for the recognition of women in art. Dataland Museum of AI arts in Los Angeles announced its first cohort of AI artist residents — Maya Man, Lucia Rebolino, Penny Slinger, and Jess Starns — whose practices span generative art, forensic architecture, feminist surrealism, and inclusive design. Dataland was co-founded in 2024 by a woman, the artist and entrepreneur Efsun Erkiliç, and the artist Refik Anadol, with whom she also co-founded Refik Anadol Studio in 2014. Joana Kawahara Lino underlined the continuing importance of such victories this week in the Right Click Save Forum, highlighting the difference between presence in the conversation and presence in exhibition lineups. It is for this reason that Right Click Save continues to support FEMGEN, which was founded by Micol Ap and Alex Estorick as a platform to rebalance the discourse around digital and generative art.
