Every so often, the buildings finally catch up to the ideas. That's the moment we're in right now, and it's the subject of the new Art & Tech, our quarterly digest built as a small act of slow reading against the attention economy. This edition is called "The New Institutions," and the list turned out longer than we expected: NODE in Palo Alto, Dataland tucked into a Frank Gehry building in downtown LA, the Schwarzman Centre at Oxford, an expanding LACMA and New Museum, Canyon and Powerhouse Parramatta on the way, and a new festival, Creative Intelligence, landing in London this September.

What connects all of them isn't the architecture. It's a shared belief that digital art needs somewhere to actually happen, not just somewhere to hang. NODE's founder Micky Malka says it plainly in an interview inside: the lighting, the pacing, the way people move through a room — that's all part of the artwork now, not just the frame around it. Anna Ridler makes a quieter version of the same point, describing attention itself as a form of care.

It's a full issue, tracing a line from a 1985 show at the Pompidou all the way to that Gehry building, by way of our new Forum and Index. Worth setting aside some time for.
